Life Update: Cat, Tats and Sexuality Chats

Hello my loves, long time no see!

I've been in a bit of a writing slump for the past month so I figured I'd just ease back into things with a little life update for you all. A small content warning that I'll be discussing self-harm in relation to my previous post about my therapy program.

1st Year of University: My Experience

Hello my loves!

While I'm back home for a couple weeks I figured now would be a great time to write a lil' post about my first year at university! As you probably already know (or maybe don't) in September I began studying philosophy and German at the University of Edinburgh. Despite Covid making it a very different kind of first year at university, I had so so much fun and I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences with you 😊

This Pride, We Need to Talk About Hungary.

Hi my loves,

A bit of a serious post today, and one that can also be found on my society's online mag, AdvocatED. I don't think it would be right to let this month's pride celebrations draw to an end without discussing a disheartening recent setback in LGBTQ+ legislation, namely Hungary's new anti-LGBT+ bill.

Bi-furious: Myths, Misconceptions and Mistreatment of Bisexuality

Hello my loves,

A belated happy Pride to you all! As a loud and proud bisexual who is tired of biphobia both in and outside of the LGBT+ community, I figured I'd kick off my pride posts with a good ol' educational post about the common myths and misconceptions of bisexuality.

Bisexuals have been a backbone of pride since the very beginning, yet are often misrepresented or ignored altogether. So here's a brief rundown of common myths and misconceptions surrounding bisexuality, that contribute to the still rampant biphobia we see today.

Vinted Haul (& Shopping sustainably!)

Hello my loves!

I know I'm coming at you with back to back hauls, but as I mentioned in my book haul post, I kind of went on a bit of a maintenance loan spending spree lol.

However, as a student who is usually broke most of the time, clothes shopping always comes with a hefty price tag, especially if you're trying your hardest to be sustainable and avoid fast fashion. So what I absolutely love about Vinted is how cheap and sustainable it makes shopping for new clothes. Vinted is an online platform like Shpock and Depop that allows you to buy second hand items, which not only slows your fashion footprint, but prevents unwanted clothes from entering landfill!

I'll ramble more about how much I love Vinted below, but without further ado here is a haul of what I got!

May Book Haul (including Audio Books!)

Hello my loves!

Apologies for my brief hiatus as I was finishing up first year, but now that my essays are handed in and my exam is done I have lots of time for writing!

Needless to say I went a bit off the rail with my maintenance loan spending now I have the false illusion of security being back at work, so here's a lil' haul of what I got.

Self-Harm to Self-Love: My 12 Week Therapy Journey and Tattoo Promise

Hello my loves,

Today is a bit of a weird one but one I'm excited to share nonetheless! Obviously from the title a big content warning for self-harm. It's gonna be a short post but pretty much just discussing that, so if you are worried reading this may affect your own well-being please don't read! Scroll to the final paragraph if you just want to hear about tattoos lol.

I thought today I'd write a little mental health update as one part of my mental health journey comes to an end, and I wait for the next part to begin.

Avoiding Loneliness in Lockdown

Hello my loves,

With my flatmate having lived with me for just over two weeks now, I thought I'd use my time this evening to reflect on the time spent living in the flat on my own, and how I coped, for just over 5 months. Without the current restrictions I most definitely wouldn't be writing a post like this, but the covid situation has brought a new meaning to the words isolation and loneliness.

It has certainly been a struggle for those living alone or without a support bubble, and with lockdown still in place, I hope this reflection may be a source of comfort for somebody, or at the very least something for me to look back on down the line.

[Lil' Status Update #3] A successful first appointment!

Hello my loves,

Just a quick update about today's appointment, which was a discussion with my GP about what's going to happen next. It was pretty much as I expected! GPs are generalists rather than specialists after all so it wasn't particularly anything in-depth. I've been given an appointment with a psychologist next week and my GP has encouraged me to really tell them what's going on, as I haven't really shared much of my issues around my eating with previous psychiatrists and therapists.

You Are More Than A Before

Hello my loves, it is currently 9:31pm and I am speed typing to get this article out before the end of Beat's Eating Disorder Awareness Week! Currently on the road to recovery myself, I wanted to share my opinion on one of the things that consistently has held me back and triggered relapse - before photos.
