Strictly Bipolar - Book Review

Strictly Bipolar by Darian Leader provides an interesting yet challenging, and arguably conspiratory embrace of the modern intersection between bipolar disorder and societal pathologisation. When I saw a single copy of this book sitting on the shelf of my local Blackwell's, I was certainly intrigued. At that point I had received bipolar diagnosis a few months ago, and yet had done very little in terms of exploring the bipolar identity beyond online personal accounts. I considered this book a personal starting point into the more objective discussions of the disorder. Unfortunately, it was not the type of book I imagined it to be.

2nd Year of University: High Highs and Low Lows

Hi my loves,

I'm back! Today I received confirmation of all of my grades for the second year of my degree meaning I'm officially halfway through my degree which is mildly terrifying. So I thought I'd get back into the swing of things by writing about my second year university experiences.

Psst ... I'm Still Here!

Hello my loves!

Just a small post to say that I am in fact still alive (just about anyway) and that I really appreciate your patience with me and my lack of activity on here. It's been a challenging couple of months mentally, which means I've had to focus what little energy I have on my studies and my job. Things are starting to clear up however and I have a long long loooong list of posts that I'm ready to write!

It's also absolutely insane that I've still managed to gain another 2k views since my last post in February. Seeing that little dial turn genuinely means so much to me and I'm blown away at how many of you are still checking in on here despite my inactivity - thank you!

I can't wait to be posting again soon, and I look forward to seeing you all there too <3

Take care x

Get To Know Me: 20 Things About This 20 Year-Old

Hello my loves,

I hope you all had a wonderful start to 2022! I'm currently stuck in bed with covid (after two years of negative tests the fucker finally got me), so I have plenty of time on my hands to catch up with the blog.

Last month I turned 20, and this blog actually turned 2 the day after my birthday! For this reason I thought it would be fun to do a classic 'get to know me' type of post. I haven't really "introduced" myself since the first post on my blog in 2020, so here's a little updated version about the person behind the blog!

Why I'm Choosing a New Year's Theme over New Year's Resolutions

Hello my loves!

With 2022 fast approaching I thought I'd write a short post on the idea of a "New Year's theme", why I'm ditching the resolutions in favour of this idea, and hopefully what a successful 2022 focussing on a New Year's theme might look like for me.

To Quote Christine and The Queens, People, I've Been Sad (Mental Health Chat)

Hello my loves,

... long time no see. I thought today I'd finally get round to writing a little mental health chat/life update and take some time to explain where I've been. To summarise, these last three months have been absolute shite. [content warning: I will discuss themes of self-harm and intrusive thoughts]

A Small Blog Update

 Hello my loves!

This is just a small update to say I've decided to officially remove 'books' as one of my blog niches. I'll still be uploading book reviews, hauls and so on, but I don't think I'm uploading book content consistently enough to consider myself a "book blogger". I am blighted by my perfectionism and find it really hard to publish my reviews, I currently have about 10 book reviews alone sitting in my drafts. But I still love book related content and I hope to upload bookish content a bit more regularly!

Thanks for reading! I have a few posts lined up to be published soon x

Life Update: Cat, Tats and Sexuality Chats

Hello my loves, long time no see!

I've been in a bit of a writing slump for the past month so I figured I'd just ease back into things with a little life update for you all. A small content warning that I'll be discussing self-harm in relation to my previous post about my therapy program.

1st Year of University: My Experience

Hello my loves!

While I'm back home for a couple weeks I figured now would be a great time to write a lil' post about my first year at university! As you probably already know (or maybe don't) in September I began studying philosophy and German at the University of Edinburgh. Despite Covid making it a very different kind of first year at university, I had so so much fun and I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences with you 😊

This Pride, We Need to Talk About Hungary.

Hi my loves,

A bit of a serious post today, and one that can also be found on my society's online mag, AdvocatED. I don't think it would be right to let this month's pride celebrations draw to an end without discussing a disheartening recent setback in LGBTQ+ legislation, namely Hungary's new anti-LGBT+ bill.

Bi-furious: Myths, Misconceptions and Mistreatment of Bisexuality

Hello my loves,

A belated happy Pride to you all! As a loud and proud bisexual who is tired of biphobia both in and outside of the LGBT+ community, I figured I'd kick off my pride posts with a good ol' educational post about the common myths and misconceptions of bisexuality.

Bisexuals have been a backbone of pride since the very beginning, yet are often misrepresented or ignored altogether. So here's a brief rundown of common myths and misconceptions surrounding bisexuality, that contribute to the still rampant biphobia we see today.
