Get To Know Me: 20 Things About This 20 Year-Old

Hello my loves,

I hope you all had a wonderful start to 2022! I'm currently stuck in bed with covid (after two years of negative tests the fucker finally got me), so I have plenty of time on my hands to catch up with the blog.

Last month I turned 20, and this blog actually turned 2 the day after my birthday! For this reason I thought it would be fun to do a classic 'get to know me' type of post. I haven't really "introduced" myself since the first post on my blog in 2020, so here's a little updated version about the person behind the blog!

Like I said I'm now 20, which still sounds so weird to say, so I think 20 questions would be a fitting number to answer. All of the questions are completely random from some pre-made lists I found online and a number generator!

1. What do you find surprising about adulthood?

Although I've technically been an adult since I was 18, I think the most surprising thing about adulthood, or turning 20 more specifically, is how very un-adult I feel. Before any 20+ year-olds come at me saying that I'm still practically fetal, I know that 20 is very young relatively. However, I think when you spend most of your teenage years excited at the thought of becoming an adult and being treated like one, it's surprising to see how little actually changes when you become one, even more so when you're still getting ID checked for energy drinks ...

2. What physical exercise do you enjoy?

I absolutely adore pole dance and used to do it regularly back home. Since coming to uni I just sadly haven't had the time, nor the budget, to keep doing it. It's something I'd definitely love to return to when I have more time in the future though!

The gym is my main form of exercise currently, and I enjoy going there lot more than I thought I would!

3. What is the best thing in your life at the moment?

My cat Crumble, who is basically my main source of happiness and motivation to do anything.

4. Do you have any piercings or tattoos?

Yes! I have 5 piercings (4 ear piercings and my septum) and 6 tattoos, much to my parents disappointment.

5. Are you in a relationship?

Nope! I've been single for just over a year now. As I spent pretty much all of my late teens in a relationship (and not entirely healthy ones at that), it's been nice to spend some time on my own. I do think I'd like to hop back in on the dating-scene pretty soon, but I'm also happy just taking things as they come.

6. How tall are you?

I'm 5'5 but I like to think I'm 6'2 in spirit.

7. How are you feeling right now?

Congested and tired, thanks covid.

8. Would you ever go into space?

Absolutely not. Space is far too terrifying, plus I might run into Elon Musk which would be even worse.

9. Do you like scary movies?

I'm 100% a horror film junkie, but I prefer to watch them with friends than by myself, as I'm also a 100% scaredy-cat.

10. Do you hold grudges?

I definitely do, but I'm trying to get better at letting things go.

11. Do you live by any philosophy or motto?

Although I'm a philosophy student, I surprisingly don't have a particular way of life that I prescribe to. Though I do often repeat the mantra "don't be fucking neurotic" to myself when I'm behaving, well, neurotic.

12. Have you ever hopelessly failed a test?

I can't think of ever failing any test, but I am *that* annoying person who cries and acts like they've failed if they didn't get the grade they wanted.

13. Where do you see yourself in 1 years time?

Hopefully this time next year I'll be on my year abroad in Germany. Fingers crossed, I should also be a research intern at an awesome human rights archive while I'm there too. Terrifyingly I'll have also started a module in which I prepare and write a proposal for my 4th year dissertation, which means I'll be thinking about how I only have one year of my degree left. Gross.

14. What are you thankful for?

Lots of things! To name a few: my cat, my friends, my job, my independence and my comfy-ass bed.

15. What motivates you to work hard?

I work hard so that I can afford to buy Crumble her favourite food and all the treats she deserves. One day I want to make enough to rent a place with a little balcony so that she can soak up the sun.

16. What is your definition of success?

I think for me success is that middle line between being happy with what I'm doing, and being able to live comfortably/happily by doing it. If I had an impressive and well-paying job but was unhappy doing it, and unsatisfied with the life that came with it, I wouldn't consider myself successful. Similarly if I was doing what I loved, but couldn't afford to pay my bills, I'd also consider that unsuccessful. Naturally there's different priorities for different people, but I think mine lay pretty much along the middle path.

17. What's one of the hardest life lessons you learned so far?

That you shouldn't put up with bad or toxic people in the hopes you can fix them. They probably aren't going to change but they most definitely will try to bring you down with them. You will find someone better.

18. What would you make illegal in this country?

Love Island. No further comments needed.

19. Where are three places you'd like to visit?

As I'll finally be living in Germany this year I'd love to visit Berlin for a couple weeks. I think I'd also like to explore more of Italy as I've only been to Rome so far, and it's an absolutely stunning country! Japan is also on my travel bucket list, but I don't plan to visit for a long long time as it's sadly super expensive to get there.

20. If you had enough money to last you a life-time what would you be doing?

Obviously I'd be adopting a lot more cats and getting a lot more tats, but I'd also probably still be in education and pursuing my dream career, as money is only really an afterthought with regards to those things :)

I hope you enjoyed my answers to that weird little assortment of questions!

Take care x
